Helping Wild Baby Birds


What to do if you see a wild bird that appears in distress:


1) Observe Adult Bird

  • Look for obvious injury
  • Is the bird acting tame?

 Baby Bird

  • Is the nest nearby?
  • Are siblings nearby?
  • Can you see or hear parents around?

2) Survey

  • Is the area safe?
  • Is the bird in its habitat?
  • Are there other birds around?

3) Respond

  • If the bird is in immediate danger.
  • If the bird has an obvious serious injury.


SO YOU SEE A BABY BIRD ON THE GOUND?


DO NOT PICK IT UP! UNLESS YOU KNOW WHERE THE NEST IS.

If you are not sure or If you still have concerns, then Call

  • Police Dispatch (NOT 911)
  • Wildlife Rehabilitator.
  • Wildlife Organization.

4) Do Not

  • Take the bird home.
  • Take it far away.
  • Try to feed it.


THE MOTHER WILL FEED ITS YOUNG ON THE GROUND.
